From Streaming to Spinning
A year ago, I had no idea that one record would turn into a growing collection of over a hundred albums sitting in my bedroom. For years, music for me was just a tap away. Press play. Skip. Repeat. Streaming was convenient, easy, and fast. I never thought I would slow down enough to drop a needle on a record.
Then I preordered GNX by Kendrick Lamar.
When I placed that order, I could not fully explain why I was so drawn to it. Maybe it was the artwork. Seeing the cover at vinyl size felt different. It was no longer just music on a screen. It felt like something you could actually own.
The funny part is, I had never owned a record player before. I had never played a vinyl record. Still, I was excited about something I had never experienced. It felt new and nostalgic at the same time.
While waiting for it to arrive, I discovered the vinyl community on TikTok. People were showing their collections and spinning records I used to own on CD. Watching them made me realize vinyl was not just about sound. It was about connection and culture. That was the moment I decided I wanted to build a collection that represented me.
That preorder did more than introduce me to vinyl. It introduced me to a different way of listening. A slower, more intentional way of experiencing music. Crate Chronicles is where I share that evolution.
